The Wine Mosaic project is a non-profit organisation that is championing vinodiversity by protecting and promoting original grape varieties of the Mediterranean

Why?

The standardisation of grape varieties poses a threat to “vinodiversity”; some 30 major grape varieties account for about 70% of the world’s wine production.

How?

The project is based around two fundamental ideas:

  • Production: highlight original varieties. Develop practical measures to ensure their preservation, and increase the production of quality wines made from these varieties
  • Consumption: raise the awareness and consumption of wines made from original grape varieties

Who?

The campaign is looking to create a network of researchers and ampelographers, journalists and bloggers, producers, distributors and sommeliers, nurserymen, consumers and wine lovers, and help them find the necessary tools and assistance to make, sell and promote wines made from endangered, indigenous and historic or traditional grape varieties.
